Volunteers serve in a variety of roles at Sacred Heart Church and add vitality to the life of our parish. To volunteer in one of the positions noted below, please call our parish office at 937-845-3121.

Extraordinary Ministers

Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist assist at Mass to ensure the distribution of Communion is reverent and orderly.

Greeters are often the first people that Mass attendees meet when entering the church. Greeters are in the gathering space prior to Mass to welcome and provide assistance.

Lay Acolytes

The Acolyte is instituted for service at the altar and to assist the Priest and Deacon. It is his place to principally prepare the altar and sacred vessels and, if necessary to distribute the Eucharist to the faithful as an extraordinary minister.

The lector is instituted to proclaim the readings from Sacred Scripture, with the exception of the Gospel. They also read the Mass intentions and announcements.

Sacristans undertake the overall preparation of liturgical celebrations, including all that is needed for special days such as Ash Wednesday and Palm Sunday.

The role of the server is integral to the normal celebration of the Mass. At least one server should assist the priest. On Sundays and other important occasions, two or more servers may be necessary to perform various functions to assist the priest(s).

Ushers provide practical support and coordination to the worship service.

There are many ways to minister through music at Sacred Heart. Contact Kristen Kosey (937) 475-5286, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to ask questions and to volunteer.

We need Cantors: singers who are trained to sing solo, and who want to share the spirituality of our faith with the assembled parish by singing the responsorial psalm and the gospel acclamation. Cantors do not have to be members of the Choirs to volunteer for this ministry.

Adult Choir -English: sing for 9 AM Masses and special occasions. Rehearsals on Thursday evenings 7-8:30 (late August-June).

Adult and teen - Spanish: Sing for Masses in Spanish and bilingual liturgies. Rehearsals on Wednesday evenings. If you are interested, please contact Pedro Martinez at 937-543-1555.

Teen Choir: Sing 4-5 times per school year as scheduled. Rehearsals are selected Sundays after RE: 11:30-1:15, including lunch. You may participate only part of the year if you have schedule conflicts: please discuss this with Kristen Kosey.

Children’s Choir: Sing for Christmas Eve 5:30 Mass and sometimes for special occasions. Rehearsals on Sunday evenings 6-6:45 as scheduled.

Funeral Choir: Help us help others at a difficult time. We keep a list of volunteers who we call as needed to sing for funerals (usually held mid-late morning). Even if you are only available certain days or are not in the Adult choir you can sing with this group and come only when available. Rehearsals are usually held half an hour before each funeral Mass.

Instrumentalists: We have several opportunities for you to share your musical talent!

Guitar ensemble: this group includes guitars, electric bass and drum set. They play once a month (usually 3rd Sunday), rehearsing on Thursday evening with the choir the week before scheduled to play. Brass, woodwind, and string instruments can be grouped together for special occasions or given the chance to play along with the choir or solo. Please contact Kristen Kosey to discuss possibilities.

Keyboard: our church is always looking for more people who are willing to play the piano or organ for worship. If you have some training and would like to help, contact Kristen Kosey.

Handchimes: our parish has a set of hand chimes that are played like handbells. We need 4-8 people to use them. Anyone who is interested in trying to play hand chimes is welcome….you do not have to be a trained musician to start. This group often forms to play for Christmas and Easter, and rehearsals are Sunday evenings 7-8:30 as scheduled.
